The five reasons you should celebrate at Kimbolton

We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to great wineries in SA – but if you want a truly memorable place to relax and indulge with friends or celebrate with family, you can’t go past the award-winning Kimbolton Wines.

Tucked away in the Langhorne Creek Wine Region, just an hour from Adelaide, Kimbolton Wines is making a big name for itself – not only for the incredible wines but also for its stunning cellar door and stellar hospitality.

Check out our top five reasons to plan your next get-together at Kimbolton Wines:

1. Group gatherings to remember

Getting the girls together for a much-needed escape? Want to celebrate a birthday or ‘just-because’ day with the family? Kimbolton Wines is the perfect place for group gatherings. Its beautiful, contemporary-designed cellar door is nestled among vines, sprawling lawns and shady trees, meaning there are plenty of inside and outside spaces to get a group together – without feeling boxed in. Our favourite spot is the rooftop – sit back with a wine in hand and take in the breathtaking vineyard views.

You’ll want to make time for the signature wine and cheese flight – four Kimbolton Wines expertly paired with local artisan cheeses. Or sip your way through one of the four carefully-curated seasonal wine tasting experiences. Indulge in one of the many tempting cheese and grazing boards and get a taste of the premier food the region has to offer.

2. Award winners

It’s not just us who love this place, the wine and tourism industry also rates Kimbolton amongst the best, and it shows in the awards, trophies and medals they’ve won recently. Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine named the winery their Star Cellar Door and Best Small Cellar Door for 2022 and it’s also a finalist in the Dark Horse Winery category in the 2023 Halliday Wine Companion Awards.

As if that’s not enough, their wines picked up four gold medals and a trophy at the latest Langhorne Creek Wine Show.

3. Pop up events

Need an extra reason to get together? Add one of Kimbolton Wines’ amazing events to your calendar. Look out for the Cellar Treasures Weekend in August, when you’ll have the chance to sample back vintage wines and other top drops not normally available. This is an unmissable, once-a-year only opportunity to taste some rare wines.

Then as the weather warms up from September, get the gang together for one of their monthly Beats and Eats events. The cellar door really comes alive with live music and global cuisine food trucks, giving you even more to enjoy with your glass of red (or rose, or white … or one of their incredible alternative varieties!).

4. It’s family friendly

Finding a venue that’s memorable and family friendly can be a challenge – but Kimbolton Wines ticks both boxes. The vineyard setting with sprawling lawns right on the doorstep ensures there’s plenty of room for little ones to run around – and everyone can get in on the fun with their lawn games.

When it comes to tastings, the junior members of the group don’t miss out – Kimbolton’s Kids’ Flight pairs three Bickford’s cordials with tasty treats such as cheese, kabana and chocolate. They’ll also be entertained with their own colouring book, pencils and bubbles, so you can relax knowing they’re enjoying their cellar door experience as much as you are.

5. It’s close to so much more

When you finally get the girls together, or manage to escape with the family, you won’t want the fun to end.

One of the best features of Langhorne Creek – aside from the amazing wines – is its proximity to so many other great spots and attractions.

Make a day of it by exploring some of the other great wineries – pick up some chocolate and pamper products at Vineyard Road, try a gin flight at Bremerton Wines, settle in for a gourmet lunch with a wine list to die for at the Winehouse, or cosy up in country comfort at the historic Bridge Hotel.

Need somewhere to stay? You’ll find some a great range of accommodation options in Langhorne Creek. The Stables BnB is centrally located in the middle of town, and The Creek Cottage is perfect for small groups looking for heritage charm. Modern offerings Bremer Stayz and Alice’s Bed and Breakfast offer all the comforts of home right in the heart of the wine region. For bigger groups try Marandoo Estate – a stunning homestead with two separate living spaces that can sleep 12 or 11 respectively, or book both to cater for extra guests.

There are also plenty of offerings just a short drive away in Murray Bridge and Goolwa, or find your own place by the water with a unique River Shack Rentals holiday home at Wellington. There’s even The Rydges Pit Lane at Tailem Bend, where you’ll find extra onsite comforts like their Apex Bar x Dining restaurant.

For longer stays, add in a visit to Goolwa’s historic wharf precinct where you can browse pop-up markets, add to your tasting experiences at a local distillery, get a taste of the steam era onboard the heritage PS Oscar W, or take in the unforgettable sights of the Coorong on a special Spirit of the Coorong Cruise.
