Taste the flavours of summer at Bremerton Wines

As the balmy days of summer move into full swing, it gives us the perfect chance to spend time outdoors, and explore our most loved SA venues – and more specifically, one of our favourites – Bremerton Wines.

Langhorne Creek locals Lucy and Rebecca Willson have developed their love for wine into an award-winning business, dedicating time to gently craft their varietals into crisp summer flavours – a labour of love as they like to say.

It comes as no surprise that they have a 5-star online rating, ranking them in the top 5 percent of all Australian wineries. So with those kind of stellar accolades, it makes sense that the rest of us should go check it out ASAP.

Cellar door

Their cellar door is the star of the show, located in the heart of Langhorne Creek, a mere one-hour drive from Adelaide city.

You’ll find the essence of this family and their region intertwined throughout the character of the building, with every touch of this beautiful property being thoughtful. A lazy day on the lawns feels like you’re being welcomed into their backyard.

Bring your family along too, because this homely and authentic space is designed with kids in mind – filled with lawn games such as quoits, Finska, noughts and crosses, and corn hole to entertain busy bees. The outdoor area is also dog friendly – so when we say family, we mean the whole family.

Plus, the alfresco dining area is kept cool with outdoor fans, keeping you comfortable on the inside and outside.

Wine

These leading ladies live and breathe wine, and you can taste it.

Their sparkling summer varietals will refresh and dazzle the senses. Their Mollie & Merle Verdello and Betty & Lu Sauvignon Blanc bring a new meaning to fresh, captivating your tastebuds with light summer flavors. For a zing of citrus and sea spray, discover the Vermentino, otherwise make your way through a glass of Fiano for a hint of lemon. There’s also the gorgeous sparkling bubbly you can try (aptly named after family members ‘Dulcie’ and ‘Wiggy’), and the crowd favourite – Racy Rose.

If you simply can’t choose – and quite frankly we don’t blame you – then explore a range of flavours with a tasting flight. From sparking to red, you may even uncover your new favourite…

Bremerton Wines is set above the rest as the only producer of gin in the area. Catch flavours of citrus, samphire, sage, Native lemongrass, and Native River mint throughout their batches – which you can also experience through a tasting flight.

The food menu

For a relaxed feel, taste the afternoon away with a picnic. Don’t worry about lugging ingredients around in the car, simply pop inside, grab a provided wooden board, and build your own platter from the refrigerated selection of local produce.

This experience comes complete with a picnic rug and pillows, an extra touch to help reach that next level of comfort.

You can also pair Bremerton’s dazzling drinks with their most popular menu item, pizza. This crowd favourite is a staple for long lunches, the ideal share food for a large group. Let the flavours of chorizo, rosemary, chilli, and truffle melt in your mouth.

For something smaller, you can’t go past the baked brie. The Divine Dairy cheese comes from Langhorne Creek cattle, taking fresh to a new level.

Art exhibitions

Their refurbished 1866 stone barn is a sight for the eyes, standing tall with a mezzanine and wall full of wine on display, it’s where history meets luxury.

Here you’ll find the permanent instillation of local artist David Dridan, home to the biggest collection of Australian artists of its era. The series called Clarendon Barrel Ends Collection puts a creative spin on the wine industry by using a template of the bottoms of barrels as canvases. If you look closely you’ll spot glimpses of Hindmarsh Island, emus on the Coorong and more of our regions beauty.

There are also temporary collections that flow in and out of the mezzanine every 6-8 weeks, meaning there’s a new sight every time you visit.

Local produce/shop

After a magical day amongst the vines, take the tastes home with you and buy a bottle. Their wine packs and hampers make travel seamless, all packaged beautifully with a bow.

Don’t worry about running out either, Bremerton Wines is always just a click away, with its online store stocking every varietal.

If a piece of local produce caught your eye during a picnic – it’ll be available to purchase in the indoor space. They’ve put our region’s food bowl on show, so you can take your pick from Woodlane Orchard, Clemco Almonds and Divine Dairy.

Grapes for Good

An honourable mention is also the Grapes for Good collaboration with Monarto Safari Park. This wine collection doubles as a conservation mission, with part proceeds supporting Zoos SA’s work. It’s never been easier, or tastier, to help the Ring-tail Lemurs stay a leap ahead of extinction.

To meet the friendly faces behind the Grapes for Good campaign, make the small drive out to Monarto Safari Park, where you can immerse yourself in their habit with the new Land of the Lemurs animal experience.

Explore the region

There’s actually a whole Grapes for Good trail that flows through the Langhorne Creek Wine Region. Allow Kel from Juggle House Experiences to guide you around in a luxury vehicle, hitting off Kimbolton Wines, Bleasdale, Lake Breeze, Vineyard Road and The Winehouse – making the most of your trip.

If you loved dressing up for a day on the lawns, you’ll love Bridges Event Centre. As South Australia’s largest regional event centre, they’ve got a jam-packed calendar that’s humming with social events. To keep the relaxed feel of Bremerton’s cellar door, head out to the Murray Bridge Golf Club for a quick hit on the green.

So, escape out to life amongst the vineyards and visit Bremerton Wines this summer.
