Raukkan

Raukkan

Situated on the lands of the Ngarrindjeri people, Raukkan lies on the banks of Lake Alexandrina near the mouth of the Murray River and Lake Albert. It is the birthplace of David Unaipon, the inventor and author whose image, along with the mission church of Raukkan, appears on the $50 note. Built in 1869, the restored church is still in use today. Raukkan is steeped in history and its residents have a great sense of community pride, this is really evident in the local history Gallery. Raukkan has also been recently visited by internationally renowned artist Guido van Helten (Brim silo, Coonalpyn silos). He painted the walls of Moorundi (Raukkan’s Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service).
