Take a swing this autumn at Murray Bridge’s championship-level golf course

According to Golf Australia, there have been more rounds of golf played across the country in the past 12 months than at any other time in the past 20 years! So, if you’ve been inspired to spend some time on the green and challenge yourself to the next best course, then your next choice should be the widely renowned, 18-hole country course in the heart of Murray Bridge.

Less than an hour from Adelaide, the Murray Bridge Golf Club is a championship course that regularly hosts the SA PGA pre-tournament warm-up events. However, the beauty of this perfectly manicured course, is that you don’t need to know a member to get a game.

The combination of country hospitality matched with a friendly, supportive playing environment is half the reason why locals and travellers (of all skill levels) will find the time to play here. The other reason is the facility itself – with its all-year round lush fairways, greens and challenging holes, plus the pro shop and large clubhouse overlooking the picturesque space.

With the arrival of autumn, comes the ultimate golfing conditions– making it the best time of year to explore South Australia’s country courses.

What’s so good about Murray Bridge’s March to May weather, is that the rainfall tends to be minimal and the average daytime temperatures sit within the low to mid 20 degree threshold – allowing us to spend a full day on the fairways without dealing with the worry of the elements. On top of this, the avid golfers who are still on the course in the late afternoon will be able to watch as the landscape takes on a red, orange and golden hue (no photo filters required!).

But it’s not just the weather that should make you add the Murray Bridge Golf Club to your autumn calendar – take a read below to find out why it might be a good idea to spend your hard-earned break or mid-week golf trip with us.

Before you tee off

The club’s onsite Pro Shop is the only one of its kind in the area and provides all the equipment and apparel you might need. Even if you’re unsure on what you might be looking for – there’s a pro onsite to provide you with tips and information on products, as well as one-on-one coaching for beginners, juniors and ladies.

You’ll also find a putting green just outside of the Clubhouse, and practice nets so you can enjoy some pre-game preparation (or post-match practice).

Par-fect scenes await on the course

The Murray Bridge Golf Club prides itself on its well-presented course. Here, you can expect sloping, mixed grass fairways, neat rows of trees and plenty of water (and sand) hazards. If you don’t feel like wheeling out the golf buggy, hire a ride-on electric cart instead to get around the 5km stretch. All of this is the reason the SA PGA pros continue to come back year-after-year for their pre-event warm up rounds.

One of the best things about this course, is you’ll be rewarded with quality playing conditions any time of the year thanks to the fully automated sprinkler system in use – and of course, the expert grounds staff who are always up for a chat if you see them in passing.

And in future, the Murray Bridge course will only get better, as exciting plans to extend to a par-71 course take shape – including two new fairways, a new driving range and renovations to the bar and kitchen facilities. This is on the cards as a joint venture with Burke Urban’s new residential development located next door to the course.

If you’re not a member here, but an affiliate of another golf club or ‘City Member’ (55km distance from club) you can play socially at any time. Otherwise, various pay-to-play options are also available.

Don't putt around - add these upcoming events to your calendar

The club is renowned for regularly hosting events and programs, including professional and amateur PGAs, Pro-Am and Championship Opens to name a few.

This July, the Club will host the SA Women’s Country Championships which accommodates to the best women golfers in the State, with Metro champions eligible to attend.

Following in September is the richest regional PGA tournament in SA, proudly sponsored by The Rural City of Murray Bridge and NUBridge. The $35,000 purse attracts Australia’s best young professional golfers, and this year has been awarded the lead-in event before the South Australian PGA. This will be huge 3-day event – we recommend planning your stay ahead of time, so you can follow the groups around the course on match days.

Have a round on and off the greens

The clubhouse will be your go-to for refreshments after you’ve finished up a game. With large windows spanning the building, you can drink in the sensational views of the course while enjoying a cold one from the bar.

The 300-or-so Murray Bridge Golf Club members will tell you the staff always have a smile on their face, and if you wind up visiting on a weekday, why not stay for dinner? The clubhouse offers meal deals on Wednesdays, bingo every Thursday night and à la carte dining on Fridays which includes 5-7 Drake’s meat tray raffles.

This space isn’t just enjoyed by members though. If you’re looking for a function space or conference room, the dining room can comfortably fit 150 people and the kitchen facility can cater for weddings, engagements, birthdays, reunions and even casual functions like a mid-week visit with your social club. Just ask about their package options.

Oh and if finishing off the day with a red wine is part of your golfing tradition, you’ll be treated to some sensational drops from the locally sourced Langhorne Creek Wine Region. So while you’re enjoying your steak and pasta on the menu, just add a glass of Bleasdale or Lake Breeze wine for the perfect end to a day on our greens.

Tip: If you like those iconic drops, then you can’t go past exploring more of our local Langhorne Creek Wine Region. Kimbolton Wines and Bremerton Wines are two of our favourites, and have perfect spaces to stop, taste and enjoy the local flavours.
